   DATA FUND information

The LEGMC data fund stores results of annual hydrometeorological, geologic, and environmental observations conducted in Latvia. The amount of information stored in this fund is the biggest in Latvia. Gradually, data fund information is converted into electronic format and stored in databases.

It also stores results of scientific researches and expedition reports carried out by LEGMC specialists.

Information from the data fund and the electronic database is used by various institutions. Data fund information can also be used by Latvian school pupils, higher school students and doctoral students in their scientific researches. To enable this option, it is necessary to submit a certificate issued by the educational institution, including the following data:

  • information requesting person is a pupil/student/doctoral student/lecturer of the corresponding institution;
  • research work name;
  • specification of LEGMC observation data necessary for the research (precisely indicating time period, location, and type of necessary information).


Data fund is situated in the main building of State Ltd. "LEGMCA", Maskavas Street 165, Riga, 1st floor. Working hours Mo, Tu, We, Th, Fr 8:30-17:00.
It is possible to get to the agency from the center by trams number 3, 7, 9 ("Balvu iela" stop), as well as by trolleybus number 15 ("Lomonosova iela" stop).

LEGMC data fund stores information about:

  • Surface hydrologic information – from 1919 on water level observations.
  • Sea coastal area hydrometeorological information – from 1835 on sea level in Riga port.
  • Aerologic and agrometeorological information – from 1945.
  • Information on environment quality – from 1946.
    Synoptic meteorological materials – from 1933.
  • Meteorological  information - starting from the year 1814, while information on Riga – already from 1795. It is generalized by the CLICOM data summarization and processing system. The CLICOM (CLImate COMputing – computerized climate observations) project was initiated within the World Meteorology Organization in 1984. Its basic task is to replace manual climatologic data processing with modern computerized methods.
