Meteorological observations are carried out by LEGMC at 36 observation stations (1 station per 1500km²), which are stationery and located over the territory of Latvia. Station location is optimized to provide a sufficiently detailed description of Latvian weather conditions and climate. The density of national observation network is regulated by international standards.

23 observation stations are equipped with automatic device and corresponding software for data measurement and transmission to the database. 15 observation stations are equipped with semiautomatic device. At these stations the numbers of observers provide additional manual measurements.

12 stations carry out only spatial changeable meteorological element observations – atmospheric precipitation, snow cover and certain atmospheric phenomena.
